About Us

Located in the beautiful San Juan River Valley in northwest New Mexico, San Juan Regional Medical Center (SJRMC) is a non-profit, community owned hospital with state-of-the-art operating suites and 72 private patient rooms with fresh air balconies.  SJRMC has a rich heritage that dates back before New Mexico was a state.  In 1910, two physicians, Dr. G.W. Sammons and Dr. A.M. Smith started an eight-bed hospital so patients in San Juan County, New Mexico would not have to travel the treacherous 50 miles to Mercy Hospital in Durango, Colorado.  As years passed, community members and staff gave their own money to buy supplies for the hospital to keep it growing and grow it did, from eight beds in 1910 to the 194 beds that exist today.

That spirit of community continues as hospital employees, physicians and volunteers reflect diverse backgrounds, but the principal motivation of doing worthwhile work and making a difference is a thriving inheritance. A community hospital with a regional outreach, SJRMC is a values-driven organization that strives to deliver on its mission and achieve its vision through the use of the core values.

Through regional outreach, SJRMC supports patients and families in the Four Corners region of New Mexico, Arizona, Colorado and Utah. The organization offers a continuum of care which includes a level III trauma center; regional cancer center; spine center; heart center; rehabilitation hospital; outpatient diagnostic center; onsite daycare facility; hospital-owned AirCare air-ambulance service  and all the San Juan Health Partners specialty clinics which have expanded beyond Farmington to Aztec, Bloomfield, and southern Colorado. As the Four Corners region grows, SJRMC responds by expanding services to meet the needs of the area.

Awards

San Juan Regional Medical Center is accredited by Det Norske Veritas (DNV), is a Certified Primary Stroke Center, Accredited Chest Pain Center with Primary PCI, and a three-time Mission: Lifeline® EMS gold award winner for excellence in cardiac care. San Juan Regional Medical Center received the Roadrunner Recognition award from Quality New Mexico in 2017. The award reflects that San Juan Regional Medical Center demonstrates progress in building sound and systematic processes and attaining improved outcomes. Also in 2017, San Juan Regional Medical Center was the only healthcare organization in the state to receive four Certificates for Excellence in Quality Improvement from HealthInsight New Mexico for improved outcomes in ED arrival to provider contact, stroke education, sepsis bundle compliance, and outpatient pain management for long bone fracture.
