A postdoctoral fellowship in basic and translational stroke research is available in the laboratory of in the laboratory of Dr. Candice Brown in the Department of Neuroscience at the West Virginia University (WVU) School of Medicine. Our laboratory seeks a talented and motivated postdoctoral fellow to investigate the molecular and cellular mechanisms of brain endothelial cell dysfunction in acute ischemic stroke. The overarching goal of our research to understand how systemic inflammation affects brain function, behavior, and long-term neurological outcomes.
This fellowship is supported, in part, by a generous donation to support stroke research at WVU. It is available initially for a one-year term with the option to renew for two additional years. The postdoctoral fellow will be part of a highly collaborative group of investigators in the Center for Basic and Translational Stroke Research and the Rockefeller Neuroscience Institute. Stroke research at WVU is also supported by the NIH-funded West Virginia Stroke COBRE, which provides support outstanding core facilities that include an Experimental Stroke Core and Rodent Behavioral Core.
Candidates should have a strong background in molecular and cellular neuroscience and experience with transgenic mouse models. Prior publications in stroke and/or neurodegenerative disease are highly desirable. Interested individuals should send a CV, along with a 1-2 page research statement, and contact information for three references to Dr. Candice Brown at cdbrown2@hsc.wvu.edu.
