A funded postdoctoral position in neuronal regeneration is available for a highly motivated candidate in the laboratory of Dr. Cavalli at Washington University in Saint Louis, Department of Neuroscience, to study the molecular and cellular mechanisms controlling axon regeneration and develop new strategies for spinal cord and optic nerve repair. Using transgenic mouse models together with a combination of biochemistry, cell biology, in vitro and in vivo imaging techniques and single cell sequencing approaches, the Cavalli lab pursues studies to uncover the neuronal and glial mechanisms that dictate the regenerative response of peripheral neurons and relate this information to the lack of regenerative capacity in the central nervous system. Using human tissue, the Cavalli lab also determines if findings made in the mouse model system are relevant to human physiology. Candidates should hold a recent PhD in life sciences with less than 2 years of prior post-doctoral experience and be committed to a career in neuroscience research. Candidates with experience in neurobiology, glial biology and/or epigenetics are particularly encouraged to apply.
