Postdoctoral position in the Neurobiology of Fear Laboratory
McLean Hospital/Harvard Medical School
McLean Hospital is seeking a postdoctoral fellow with a primary focus on the molecular and circuit mechanisms of stress, fear, and anxiety-related behaviors, particularly within the amygdala. The fellow will be mentored by Dr. Kerry Ressler in the Neurobiology of Fear Laboratory and have access to the McLean Hospital and Harvard Medical School academic environment and resources. The successful candidate will be proposed for academic appointment as a Research Fellow in the Department of Psychiatry at Harvard Medical School.
We are looking for a graduated PhD scientist with 1-2 years postdoctoral experience and expertise in mouse neural circuit function, including optogenetics, chemogenetics, fiber photometry and miniature microscope analyses of single cell calcium channel activity. We also seek experience in mouse behavior, including learning and memory, with specific emphasis in understanding the neural mechanisms of stress, fear, anxiety, and addiction related behaviors in mouse models. The Fellow will be responsible for independently-led experiments within a broader collaborative group focused on stress neuropeptides and neural pathways mediating fear- and stress responses. This work aims to dissect the molecular events within specific neuron populations that underlie the fear and stress response. The Fellow will utilize mouse behaviors, molecular and cellular biology, intracranial surgery and manipulations, optogenetics, chemogenetics, fiber photometry, cell-type specific sequencing, immunohistochemistry and in situ hybridization.
Preferred is a candidate with the following attributes:
a strong background in mouse neural circuit function, including optogenetics, chemogenetics, fiber photometry and miniature microscope analyses of single cell calcium channel activity
a strong background in mouse behavior, including addiction, appetitive behavior, stress-related behavior and neurobiology.
previous experience with mouse behavior (learning and memory related paradigmsr), some exposure to molecular and cellular biology, intracranial surgery and manipulations, viral vector techniques and chemogenetics, and immunohistochemistry.
self-starter with excellent problem-solving, communication, organizational and creative skills;
Please include the names & contact details for three references in your application.
