A postdoc position in Neurophysiology and Epilepsy is available in the lab of Dr. Catherine Christian at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (www.christianlab.org).
This position is for an NIH-funded project investigating the neural and pituitary mechanisms underlying reproductive endocrine disorders that are comorbid with epilepsy. The particular focus of this position will be to determine functional and anatomical disruptions in hypothalamic neuroendocrine cells and circuits in a mouse model of temporal lobe epilepsy. These experiments will involve a variety of approaches and tools including patch clamp electrophysiology, EEG, stereotactic intracranial injections of convulsants or AAV vectors, optogenetics/chemogenetics, calcium/voltage imaging, and immunohistochemistry.
A Ph.D. in Neuroscience, Neurobiology, Physiology, or a related field is required. Candidates close to defending the dissertation will be considered. Experience in one or more of the techniques listed above is desired, but all necessary training will be provided in our lab - a supportive environment dedicated to the development of well-rounded scientists.
