A postdoctoral associate position is available immediately in the Scott Lab in the Epilepsy, Cognition and Development (ECD) group in the Department of Neurological Sciences at The University of Vermont (UVM) Robert Larner College of Medicine. The candidate will work closely with other members of the ECD group, particularly Dr. Hernan and Dr. Mahoney, on a collaborative project involving all three investigators.

The ECD group at UVM broadly seeks to understand the high rate of psychiatric comorbidity that occurs in the context of epilepsy, particularly pediatric epilepsy. Using a combination of in vivo electrophysiological, both traditional tetrode recordings as well as high-density next-generation (Neuropixels) probes, genetic, histological and molecular biology approaches using a systems neuroscience framework, our goal is to find novel interventions that improve cognitive outcome in rodent models of epilepsy. Our group is diverse and highly collaborative, and the ideal candidate would thrive in a collaborative environment that encourages multi-disciplinary engagement. We are currently seeking outstanding applicants for a fully funded postdoctoral position to understand neural dynamic and genetic changes that occur with and without treatment in a developmental seizure model.

For more information on our group, please see http://www.med.uvm.edu/ecdgroup/home.

Burlington, VT is a beautiful place to live and work. Nestled in the green mountains on the shores of Lake Champlain, Burlington offers a high-quality lifestyle with the opportunity to participate in many outdoor activities.  You will be joining an exciting scientific atmosphere that offers amazing work/life balance, in a supportive and intellectually-stimulating environment.

Interested candidates should send a cover letter, CV and a list of three references to Rodney.Scott@uvm.edu.

Applicants with a strong background in in vivo electrophysiology, systems neuroscience or an eagerness to learn are encouraged to apply. Experience with Matlab, histological techniques and/or genetics is encouraged. Problem-solving skills, analytical thinking, motivation, initiative, creativity, and good communication skills are essential. Candidates must have earned or will soon receive a PhD or equivalent (MD or MD/PhD) in neuroscience or related fields. Candidates are expected to be highly motivated, independent, and creative.

UVM is especially interested in candidates who can contribute to the diversity and excellence of the academic community through their research, teaching, and/or service. Applicants are requested to include in their cover letter information about how they will further this goal. UVM is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action Employer. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability, protected veteran status, or any other category legally protected by federal or state law. The University encourages applications from all individuals who will contribute to the diversity and excellence of the institution.  The application receipt and review process will begin immediately and continue until the position is filled.
