The Institute of Biomedical Engineering at Bogazici University in Istanbul, Turkey invites applications for full-time academic faculty positions in the following fields:
Designing and testing multielectrode arrays
Recording and stimulation in the peripheral nervous system of animal models
Neural interfacing for sensorimotor prostheses and electroceuticals
Adequate background in fields such as control systems, instrumentation, robotics, mechatronics, statistical signal processing, machine learning and neuroscience
The Institute has state-of-the-art facilities for in vivo and in vitro electrophysiology, histology, behavioral neuroscience and psychophysics. Current research mostly focuses on cortical studies with rats and non-invasive work with humans. The Neuroengineering teaching and research track aims to extend to innovative preclinical technologies for the peripheral nervous system, targeting human use in near future.
Medical imaging applications (e.g., MRI, Ultrasound, Elastography) in biomechanics and skeletal muscle
Medical devices and innovation for treatment and novel studies of muscle function and pathological conditions
The Biomechanics Laboratory focusing on Motion and Tissue Biomechanics has been developing novel viewpoints for musculo-skeletal mechanics with major impact on knowledge of normal and pathological muscle function and unknown mechanisms of several treatments. The Laboratory will expand its space and capacity substantially, and is aiming at establishing European excellence in Motion and Sports Biomechanics, in vivo Muscle Mechanics and Rehabilitation.
Analog/digital hardware design for medical devices
Bio-MEMS, MEMS based in vitro diagnostics
Innovative diagnostic, therapeutic or assistive device technologies with the potential to transform the device prototypes into the clinics
Medical robotics, implants, prostheses/orthoses
The emphasis and long-term vision is on medical device design and development, calibration and maintenance of medical devices, medical device administration. This involves basic research in implantable medical device design and development, medical robotics, in vitro diagnostic test kit development and MEMS based biosensor design.
Nanotechnology based photodynamic therapy and photothermal therapy (for cancer treatment and deactivation of drug-resistant bacteria)
Temperature controlled medical laser systems for therapeutic usage
Diagnostic devices and methods for cancer detection using spectroscopy techniques
The Biophotonics Laboratory focuses on, and excels in medical laser applications including optical characterization, photobiomodulation, surgical use of lasers, laser welding and tissue soldering, laser applications in dentistry, photodynamic therapy along with histopathology, tissue mechanics and cell culture.
The candidates with strong research track records are expected to bring in their own research interests and computational/experimental/translational expertise to the Institute. The ideal candidate is one who will play a major role in strengthening and expanding the current research priorities indicated and establishing solid synergies across different laboratories of the Institute. Particularly relevant research actions will be those that grow towards translational developments with impact not only in science but also in industry. All faculty members are expected to establish a funded research program. Additionally, they are required to teach graduate courses and supervise graduate students towards their MSc and PhD degrees.
