The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania seeks candidates for an Assistant Professor position in the non-tenure research track.
Research or scholarship responsibilities may include leading, managing, and overseeing a research program on TDP-43 proteinopathies in the CNDR. The primary role will be to provide leadership and direction in basic and translational research into the pathogenesis of Frontotemporal lobar degeneration (FTLD), Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) and other related diseases such as Alzheimer’s Disease (AD) and Limbic-predominant age-related TDP-43 encephalopathy (LATE), with a particular emphasis on elucidating the mechanism of protein misfolding and drug discovery.
Applicants must have an M.D. or Ph.D. or M.D./Ph.D. degree. Expertise is required in the specific area of the field of basic and translational science with a focus on TAR-DNA binding protein 43 (TDP-43) proteinopathies.
Applicants must have demonstrated excellent qualifications in research. A minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in an academic research environment or the biotechnology/pharmaceutical industry is required. Leadership qualities and strong communications and interpersonal skills are also necessary.
The position will require the ability to interpret results from in vitro and in vivo models of protein aggregation and screening of small molecules as therapeutic candidates. The ideal candidate will be skilled in developing novel cell and animal models of TDP-43 proteinopathies. In addition, the successful candidate will be required to possess extensive knowledge in neuropathology with a particular interest in neurodegenerative diseases as well as the neuroanatomy in rodents.
