NIH-funded postdoctoral position available in the laboratory of Dr. Devin Mueller (https://www.kent.edu/biology/devin-mueller) to investigate physiological, cellular and behavioral mechanisms underlying drug addiction. Our laboratory utilizes a variety of approaches, including patch-clamp electrophysiology, behavioral testing, molecular techniques, and optogenetics. Research projects are focused on: 1) neural mechanisms of extinction of drug-seeking behavior, 2) neural circuitry underlying drug-associated memory retrieval, and 3) effects of early life experience on subsequent drug use and development of comorbidities.
Candidates should have a Ph.D. in Neuroscience, Psychology, Physiology or related discipline, should be highly motivated, and should be able to work independently and as part of a team. Experience with patch-clamp electrophysiology in brain or spinal cord slices preferred, and with rodent models, viral technologies, or molecular techniques a plus. Successful candidates will possess a strong track record of publication, good organization skills and attention to detail.
Our laboratory is located in the Department of Biological Sciences at Kent State University and is affiliated with the newly opened Brain Health Research Institute (https://www.kent.edu/brainhealth). The program is experiencing considerable growth and is an integral part of a large neuroscience community in Northeast Ohio.
