Post-Doctoral Position in Stroke Research, UCSD Translational Neuroscience Institute/Tuszynski Laboratory
Post-doctoral position to study molecular and cellular mechanisms of stroke in a leading laboratory for CNS repair research. Following focal cortical injury, we will examine transcriptional changes in spared neurons that mediate functional recovery, using intersectional viral approaches and RNA sequencing. Following mapping of the neural repair “transcriptome”, candidate drugs and small molecules that mimic the repair transcriptome will be identified. These drugs and small molecules will then screened in in vitro and in vivo stroke models. This is an exciting project utilizing state-of-the-art tools of neuroscience to discover novel translational therapies. Strong candidates for this position will have MD and/or PhD degree with a strong track record of academic accomplishment. Background in one of the following is desirable: bioinformatics, RNAseq, neuronal culture, in vivo models of stroke; more important is a strong motivation to learn and make progress in this field.
