We are searching for an outstanding postdoctoral fellow interested in studying the neurobiology of Alzheimer’s disease in animal models along with potential novel therapeutic interventions at Ana Pereira’s Laboratory at Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in New York City. Candidates should have a strong background in molecular and cell biology and have experience with the following techniques: cell culture, DNA/RNA isolation, cellular fractionation, western blot, PCR/qRT-PCR, in situ-hybridization, immunohistochemical labeling. Candidates will also be responsible for maintaining a large colony of transgenenic mice to be used for molecular and behavioral experiments. An interest in neurodegeneration will be highly valued. A demonstrated track record of self-motivation, ability to work independently at the bench, enthusiasm, and scientific rigor is necessary. Ana Pereira’s laboratory focuses on furthering knowledge of the neurobiology of Aging and Alzheimer’s disease taking into account the selective vulnerability of glutamatergic neural circuits to synaptic changes in aging and neuronal loss in Alzheimer’s disease. Dr. Pereira and her lab members have been studying glutamatergic neuronal susceptibility with modern quantitative cell biology methods (at the synaptic and spine resolution with electron and confocal microscopy) in conjunction with molecular tools (next generation RNA sequencing) and functional assays. The laboratory seeks to explore mechanisms underlying these susceptibilities along with novel and effective therapeutic interventions. As a physician-scientist, Dr. Pereira has been translating basic science findings from the laboratory into clinical studies and a trial of potential novel treatments for patients with Alzheimer’s disease.
