A postdoctoral position is available in the laboratory of Dmitry Gerashchenko at Harvard Medical School located in the West Roxbury VA Hospital. A candidate with a strong background in sleep research and/or Alzheimer's disease research is sought to participate in studies on the role of different types of interneurons in the regulation of sleep, slow wave activity production, and pathogenesis of Alzheimer's disease. Projects involve production of novel mouse models, sleep recordings in live animals, and the use of various neuroscience techniques such as optogenetics, chemogenetics, fiber photometry, genome engineering, mapping and manipulating of neural circuits. Studies are supported by the NIH grant R01AG061774-01.
Skills in one or several of the following areas are highly desirable.
- stereotaxic surgery in mice
- optogenetics, fiber photometry, chemogenetics
- molecular cloning, production and use of viral vectors
- histochemistry and neuroanatomy
Data analysis experience, good publication record and strong written and verbal communication skills are also desirable.
