A Postdoctoral Fellow position is available in the lab of June Liu, Ph.D. in the School of Medicine, Department of Cell Biology and Anatomy at LSU Health Sciences Center in New Orleans to study cerebellar regulation of emotional state. The research focuses on synaptic and neural circuit plasticity in brain slices and the role of plasticity in emotional learning and memory. We are particularly interested in an emotional learning-induced change in endocannabinoid signaling and synaptic transmission and its effect on the activity of a neuronal circuit and learning/memory (see J. Neurosci.31:501, 2011, 29:381, 2009; Nature Neurosci. 13:223, 2010; Cell Reports, 17:86, 2016; J Neurophysiol. 115:271, 2016). We use DREADD technology to test the involvement of neuronal circuits in behavior, and electrophysiology, optogenetics and molecular biology approaches to determine the mechanisms and functional consequences of neural plasticity. The Department of Cell Biology and Anatomy has a history of strong commitment to the various missions of the LSU Health Sciences Center in New Orleans– research, education and service. The department is actively involved in the teaching of many courses in the Schools of Medicine, Dentistry, Allied Health, Nursing and Graduate Studies.
The research programs of the department have greatly expanded over the past several years through the hiring of faculty who have expertise in the areas of cell and molecular biology, developmental biology, electrophysiology and neurobiology.
