Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory (CSHL), a world-renowned research facility on Long Island’s North Shore, is expanding its neuroscience research program and is looking for a recent PhD graduate to provide support with associated commercial and philanthropic activities. This individual will report to both the business development and technology transfer departments in order to bridge the gap between our neuroscientific researchers and fundraising opportunities within the greater community.

Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to the following:
- Identify funding opportunities for CSHL research and education programs and solicit funds – focusing on private foundations, corporations, and philanthropic donors.
- Communicate and translate scientific content to internal and external groups (both scientific and lay audiences) through phone calls, presentations and written materials.
- Work with scientists, senior educational staff and administration on developing proposals, including drafting, writing, and/or editing materials.
- Develop and maintain relations with directors and program officers at private foundations; with pharmaceutical/biotechnology companies and their foundations; and with program officers at federal agencies in order to identify and cultivate potential funding leads involving sponsorship and support of scientists, collaborative research projects, meetings, courses, and special events.
- Work with Academic staff in the evaluation and analysis of the commercial potential of CSHL technologies and research.

Education: Must have a PhD in neuroscience or a related field.

Experience: This candidate will ideally possess some previous experience translating scientific content to present to both scientific and non-scientific backgrounds, as well as some fundraising experience.

Skills: This individual must have very strong communication and presentation skill, as well as the ability to bridge highly technical science fields to a lay audience.
