Principal Scientist in Alzheimer for Lundbeck Neuroscience
We are looking for a principal scientist with a strong research background in neurological disorders, in particular Alzheimer’s disease, to join the Lundbeck research in a cross-functional role in the department for Translational biology. As part of the larger Lundbeck R&D organization, we are focused on utilizing in-vivo assays to establish exposure-effect relationships for drug candidates at the level of affinity, direct mechanistic, functional and behavioural effects and to continuously develop our understanding of disease biology and therapeutic entry points.
Your job and key responsibilities
With your in-depth understanding of neurological disorders - in particular Alzheimer’s disease - you will be working broadly across the Neuroscience organization in close collaboration with other scientists and technicians and contribute with scientific leadership and key experimental data to our portfolio of drug discovery projects. You will contribute to progression of drug discovery projects in collaboration with clinical scientists to develop solid cross-species translational paths based on your knowledge of pathophysiology and symptoms as well as specific mechanistic knowledge of drug targets. Experimentally, you focus on measuring target engagement the level of direct mechanistic and functional effects in the brain to measure cross-species relevant translational pharmacodynamic effects and establishment of therapeutic index. You do this both in-house and by leveraging on external partnering opportunities. You communicate ideas, plans, results in a clear and concise fashion.
The opportunity to join a team of highly qualified and experienced colleagues that are on a quest of making new innovative medicines and to share a workplace with an open, science-driven, collegial and collaborative atmosphere. We focus on teamwork and individual professional development and you will be part of a global and specialized pharmaceutical company with approximately 5,000 employees focused on helping patients with psychiatric and neurological disorders.
Our preferred candidate has the following professional and personal qualifications:
PhD and senior post-doctoral experience in neuroscience (academia or industry)
8+ years in pharmaceutical research with the majority in pharmaceutical industry including cross-species translational work.
Strong insight into neurological disorders - in particular alzheimers disease – with in-depth knowledge of pathophysiology, neuronal circuitry function and symptomatology.
Experience with building exposure-effect relationship for plasma, CSF and ISF wet biomarkers in animal models of alzheimers disease.
Experience with preclinical network imaging technologies such as PET and fMRI.
Knowledge of stress biology and neuroinflammation is an advantage.
Experience with in-vivo studies to measure biological effects of therapeutic antibodies in the brain is an advantage.
Demonstrated ability to lead projects and teams as well as preclinical CRO’s in a project organization
Strong and active external scientific network.
Strong collaborator and communicator in English, written and orally.
