The Institute for Quantitative Health Science and Engineering and the Department of Pediatrics and Human Development at Michigan State University are seeking a qualified PhD candidate for a Research Associate (postdoctoral fellow) position in the lab of Dr. Rebecca Knickmeyer. Dr. Knickmeyer’s research program is focused on identifying genes and molecular pathways influencing early brain development through the integration of neuroimaging with cutting-edge techniques in genomics, metagenomics, and analytical chemistry.
We seek candidates with a strong research background to lead new projects related to the development of the microbiome-gut-brain axis. Studies will utilize gnotobiotic mice, human clinical samples, neuroimaging, and neurobehavioral techniques to understand how microbes contribute to risk for anxiety, depression, and autism spectrum conditions. The candidate will have the opportunity to develop innovative projects, which complement our ongoing work, present data at national and international meetings, mentor graduate and undergraduate students in the lab, and develop new skills to advance his or her career.
Candidates must have a PhD and research experience in psychology, neuroscience, animal behavior, biology or related fields. Substantial experience working with animal (mouse) models is required. Experience with gnotobiotic models, animal surgeries, histology, and neuroimaging and behavioral testing of rodents is highly desirable, as is a strong publication record.
This position is a 12 month fixed term appointment. Renewal of position is based on funding and performance.
