The New York Stem Cell Foundation Research Institute (NYSCF) is a rapidly growing and highly successful nonprofit organization whose mission is to accelerate cures through stem cell research. NYSCF is currently seeking a postdoctoral fellow to join our growing Parkinson's disease team. Projects will focus on modeling Parkinson's disease using a unique in-house resource of induced pluripotent stem cell lines from subjects with clinically diverse genetic and sporadic forms of disease. Emphasis will be on defining in vitro disease phenotypes and mechanisms in specific disease relevant cell types, co-cultures, and organoids.
We are seeking a creative, highly accomplished and motivated candidate with a strong background in stem cell biology and cell models of neurodegenerative disease. Specific experience with neural differentiation and analysis of 2-D and 3-D cultures and expertise in Parkinson's disease or other neurodegenerative disorders are desirable. The successful candidate will report to Dr. Gist Croft, a NYSCF Senior Investigator with a record of leadership in ALS, Huntington's, and early embryo biology, and work closely with the Chief Medical Officer and an interdisciplinary team of biologists and engineers.
Conduct and design independent research under the guidance of a senior investigator
Define phenotypic assays for genetic and sporadic forms of Parkinson's disease
Participate in internal and collaborative research projects related to Parkinson's disease and other neurodegenerative disorders
Perform cell culture to support ongoing projects in neurodegeneration, including maintenance and directed differentiation of stem cells.
Optimize procedures for manual and automated differentiation, isolation, and analyses of dopaminergic and other neurons and brain cells, and creation of co-cultures and organoids
Collect, analyze, and review scientific data for publication and presentation
Maintain accurate, timely, and complete records and protocols, including an electronic laboratory notebook
Communicate in written and oral form with a multidisciplinary team
PhD or MD/PhD in cell biology, neuroscience, or other relevant field
Strong background in mammalian cell culture
Ability to analyze, interpret, and present data with insight and focus
Demonstrated ability to work both independently and within a multidisciplinary team
Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
Adaptability to a fast-paced, dynamic environment, with occasional weekend work
Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills
