Summary: The Neurosciences Principal Scientist will develop and lead the Cook Children's pediatric neuroscience research program towards international recognition for breakthroughs transforming clinical practice by developing, analyzing, and rapidly diffusing innovative solutions to deliver high value care to our patients. Practically, the Principal Scientist applies extensive biology, drug, and medical device development expertise to oversee cross-functional neuroscience research teams within the epilepsy, neurosurgery, movement disorders, and general neurology disciplines that are tasked with identifying and validating novel therapeutic targets or pure discovery, and then translating these insights and findings to position therapeutic agents or pathophysiologic knowledge in contexts that maximally benefit patients. As a mentor, the Principal Scientist will support and develop the research careers of other professionals at Cook Children's who share the mission of the department and the overall investigational endeavors of the Cook Children's Health Care System.
Doctorate (MD, PhD) in a biomedical discipline aligned with pediatric neuroscience.
Fifteen or more years of relevant research experience conducting clinical and/or translational science.
Proven capable of successfully obtaining and managing extramural funding (e.g., extramural grants, endowments, etc.).
Extensive publication, as senior author, of impactive scientific results in the peer-reviewed medical and/or scientific literature.
Proven leadership among cross-disciplinary teams of biomedical scientists engaged in collaborative studies.
