The DMC is seeking an experienced, innovative, operational and strategic physician executive who will be the clinical leader and have responsibility for all inpatient safety, quality and clinical outcomes Detroit Medical Center’s Adult Central Campus known as Harper Hutzel. Harper Hutzel is comprised of more than 600 beds and 3 separate acute care hospitals: DMC Detroit Receiving Hospital, a 300 bed acute care facility in downtown Detroit and Michigan’s first Level I Trauma Center and is affiliated with Wayne State and has 1,000 residents. DMC Harper University Hospital, a 400 bed acute care facility acute which has distinguished itself in surgery and medicine and is known for its clinical expertise, innovative research and advanced education. Harper University Hospital has established Centers of Excellence in neurosciences, vascular services, multidisciplinary cardiovascular services, hypertension, stroke prevention and heart failure and Harper University Hospital is home to the revolutionary Cardio Team One, the new standard of excellence in heart care. Lastly, the DMC’s Adult Central Campus is home to DMC Hutzel Women’s Hospital which is nationally recognized for cutting-edge research in high-risk obstetrics, infertility, reproductive genetics, neonatology, maternal fetal medicine, midwifery, gynecology, urogynecology, menopause, permanent birth control and alternatives to hysterectomy.
The Chief Medical Officer will report to the CEO of Harper Hutzel and be part of the hospitals’ Executive Team. He/she will provide leadership in all aspects of medical affairs for all with particular emphasis on quality, safety, clinical care and efficiency for inpatient activities for the 3 hospitals of the DMC’s Adult Central Campus. The primary objective of this position is to optimize quality of care through rigorous outcomes measurement and performance improvement processes.
The Chief Medical Officer also serves as the liaison and resource to management in the hospital on matters pertaining to 4 key areas:
Medical Staff Governance, Outreach and Engagement which includes collaboration with the medical staff members and overseeing credentialing, OPPE and peer review;
Quality, Patient Safety and Experience: assuring performance on quality metrics and securing patient safety and experience;
Streamlining Clinical Processes: Adhering to evidence based best practice and working to standardize a Tenet Operating System;
Partnering with Nursing Leadership to provide seamless clinical leadership.

Chief Medical Officer Qualifications:
Board certified MD or DO with current Medical License in good standing.
MBA or similar advanced business/management education preferred.
Excellent clinician with a minimum of 5 years of clinical and administrative experience.
Experience as a Chief Medical Officer or Vice President Medical Affairs in a large and complex acute care hospital and or integrated delivery system and Multi-campus experience preferred.
Experience in an academic medical center is preferred.
Demonstrated ability to perform in a matrixed reporting environment
Demonstrated expertise/accomplishments in and knowledge of evidence based medicine, quality improvement methodology and CMS value based purchasing metrics with a demonstrated track record of creating a "culture of safety" in the organization as well as success in engaging and partnering with clinicians.
