Job Details

Postdoctoral positions are available to study neural repair and/or neurodegeneration in Stephen Strittmatter's laboratory.

Neural repair mechanistic studies are based on whole-genome loss-of-function discovery of novel pathways essential to limit axon regeneration.  Work involves in vivo gene editing, functional outcomes and translation to therapeutic development.  Models include traumatic spinal cord injury, head injury, optic nerve crush and glaucoma.

Neurodegeneration research based on unbiased discovery of neuronal pathways mediating the toxicity of misfolded disease-related proteins.  Investigations include functional and biochemical assays in neuronal cultures,  activity and behavioral studies in gene-targeted mouse models, structural analysis by NMR and cryo-EM, and development of novel therapeutics for neurodegenerative diseases.  Focus on Alzheimer's, disease, Fronto-temporal dementia and Parkinson's disease.

Funded by NIH grants R35NS097283, R01AG034924, RF1AG053000, U01EY027256, U01AG058608 and P50AG047270.
