Postdoctoral Research Fellow (Stem Cells, Neuropsychiatric Disorders, Imaging, Phenotypic Screening)
Boston Children's Hospital
August 31, 2018
Full Time - Experienced
Academic / Research
Postdoctoral fellow. PhD in Neuroscience, Cell Biology, or related field with experience in iPSC cell culture and neuronal differentiation. Experience with neuropsychiatric disorders or high content imaging is a plus. Candidates must be self-motivated, capable of working independently, and be scientifically curious.
A unique postdoctoral position is available for joint mentorship by Dr. Mustafa Sahin and Dr. Joseph Gonzalez-Heydrich, to work at Boston Children’s Hospital as part of the Harvard Medical School community. We are seeking a highly motivated, independent, and well-organized scientist who has experience with iPSC-derived neurons to drive an innovative research project focused on modeling neuropsychiatric disorders in culture.
This position is unique because it offers the opportunity to be mentored by two leading neurologists in the field. Dr. Sahin’s lab is a leader in the study of neurodevelopmental disorders, especially TSC, and has grown to include expertise in iPSC-modeling of early onset epilepsy and intellectual disability while Dr. Gonzalez-Heydrich is a leading psychiatrist who sees patients with early onset psychosis and has identified novel potentially disease-causing mutations. The selected candidate will drive an innovative and promising project using patient-specific iPSC-derived neurons. The lab uses state-of-the-art high content imaging, multi-electrode array platforms, and targeted RNA sequencing, along with traditional biochemistry and molecular biology techniques to answer important questions relevant to the causes of neurodevelopmental disorders. Training on these state-of-the-art platforms will be provided, as needed. Strong oral and written communication skills will be essential for success in this position.
Boston Children's Hospital is an equal opportunity employer.
Job requirements include:
A PhD in Neuroscience, Cell Biology, or related field.
Experience with iPSC cell culture.
Experience with neuronal differentiation.
Self-motivated and capable of working independently.
Strong oral and written communication skills.

About Boston Children's Hospital
In 2013, Boston Children's Hospital formed the Translational Neuroscience Center (TNC) with the goal of bringing together world-class clinical care, basic research, and translational research efforts to improve diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of childhood neurological diseases. Our lab is located within the TNC and is part of a unique network of researchers and clinicians with access to state of the art core facilities and collaborators. The TNC offers a unique environment for a close connection with clinicians and access to rare patient populations, a combination that fuels the research taking place here.
