A postdoctoral position is available in the neurobiology laboratory of Dr. Joyce Besheer at the Bowles Center for Alcohol Studies at the University of North Carolina – Chapel Hill. Research in the lab focuses on the neurobiological mechanisms and circuitry underlying alcohol effects, alcohol drinking, relapse, and the impact of stress on these behaviors and neuroadaptations. The lab incorporates a variety of preclinical behavioral and molecular techniques including self-administration, drug discrimination, interoceptive conditioning, brain region-specific pharmacological and viral manipulations, chemogenetics, and molecular analyses.
Candidates should have a strong background in behavioral neuroscience. Experience in the alcohol field is not required, but prior experience in addiction-related research is preferable. Applicants must have a Ph.D. in a relevant field by the time of starting in the lab. The preferred candidate will have strong laboratory, communication, and analytical skills as indicated by letters of reference and peer-reviewed publications.
