General Purpose: Reporting to the Chair of the FAS Central Campus Scanner Governance Committee (CCSGC), the MRI Facility Director is responsible for managing the day-to-day operation of the MRI facility for human brain imaging in the Faculty of Arts and Sciences (FAS)
Required Education and Experience: PhD in a related field and five to ten years related work experience in a research development facility, supervising and overseeing facilities operations or the equivalent combination of education and experience.
Understanding of how MRI technology works and associated safety and environmental risks; substantial experience conducting MRI research, including specifying sequence parameters, controlling software console, configuring apparatus for experiments, and operating specialized MRI instrumentation.
Exceptional interpersonal skills; service-oriented mindset; support students, postdocs, and faculty at all levels of expertise to help them achieve research goals; excellent organizational, prioritization, and communication (verbal, writing, presentation) skills; acute attention to detail.
Ability to work independently and shoulder burden of responsibility for the safety of others in a highly sensitive research environment; performs well under pressure and handles multiple tasks accurately; commitment to representing Yale in a professional manner and to doing outreach within FAS to advertise resources and identify potential users.
Aware of latest advances in MRI data acquisition and analysis; ability to implement these advances at the facility through agreements with vendor and sister institutions; stays up-to-date through reading and reviewing primary literature and/or attending a professional meeting each year.
Fluency with MRI analysis software, including at least one of FSL, Freesurfer, SPM, AFNI, or BrainVoyager; training or experience with statistics; knowledge of one or more programming or scripting languages, including Python, C, Java, R, Matlab, and UNIX.
Preferred Education and Experience: Advanced degree in Psychology, Neuroscience, Physics, Engineering, or related field, with at least five years of related experience in a research facility.
