The Vanderbilt Memory & Alzheimer’s Center and Vanderbilt Genetics Institute are pleased to announce an opening for a full-time post-doctoral fellow to carry out imaging genetics research with a focus on Alzheimer’s disease. The fellow will be involved in an active, NIH-funded clinical research program, leveraging data from the Alzheimer’s Disease Genetics Consortium (ADGC) and multiple longitudinal cohort studies of Alzheimer's disease. The research portfolio emphasizes sex differences in the genetic predictors of Alzhimer's disease, and “asymptomatic” Alzheimer's disease in which participants present with all the neuropathological features of AD but without cognitive impairment. The fellow will contribute to large-scale analyses, including developing and honing expertise in bioinformatic, proteomic, and genomic analytical techniques. The fellow will be responsible for generating manuscripts relating available 'omic data to the extensive phenotype data available, including autopsy and in vivo biomarkers of neuropathology. The candidate will train under the mentorship of fellowship supervisor Dr. Timothy Hohman, in partnership with the Vanderbilt Memory & Alzheimer’s Center’s interdisciplinary collaborators (e.g., genetics, neurology, psychiatry, geriatrics, cognitive neuroscience, neuropsychology, chemistry, and cardiology). Didactics include (but are not limited to) writing studios, laboratory meetings, computational workshops, and seminars in neuroimaging, genetics, and Alzheimer’s disease.
Candidates should have a PhD in human genetics, neuroscience, or a related discipline at the time of fellowship appointment with prior experience in neuroimaging or human genetic analysis and an interest in learning new techniques. Programming skills in R, Unix/Linux, MATLAB, and Python are highly desired. Excellent written and oral communication skills are required. The fellowship start date is flexible and is available for two years. Candidates must be able to meet eligibility requirements to work in the United States at the time of appointment and continue working legally for the proposed term of employment.
