The Max Tischfield laboratory, located in the Child Health Institute of New Jersey and part of the Department of Cell Biology and Neuroscience at Rutgers University (New Brunswick), is a translational research lab that focuses on neurological and vascular disease. We are currently seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral associate with a strong background in neuroscience, cell biology, and/or a related discipline.
The successful applicant will lead a small team, under the direction of the principal investigator, to investigate mouse models of neuropsychiatric disease. The primary focus will be on recently discovered human gene mutations and signaling pathways, associated with Tourette syndrome, that are important for brain development and function. As part of a vibrant, collaborative, and multi-PI team at Rutgers, we are combining advanced mouse behavioral studies, neuronal structure, circuit analysis and high-resolution microscopy, with electrophysiology and in vivo brain imaging. Our ultimate goal is to identify and correlate behavioral abnormalities in Tourette syndrome mouse models with the underlying affected neuronal cell types and circuits, so we can begin to study rationale drug therapies.
Candidates should have a recent Ph.D. in neurobiology, cell/molecular biology, or a related field with one or more first author publications in internationally recognized peer-reviewed journals. Candidates must have effective communication skills and be highly motivated, self-driven, creative, and interactive, with the ability to work collaboratively and independently. A proven record of accomplishment with mouse genetics, rodent stereotaxic brain injections, and/or synapse and circuit labeling techniques is preferred. Experience with electrophysiology, script writing, and coding skills are a plus. This position requires experience and willingness to work with mice. Salary will be negotiable, highly competitive, and commensurate with experience.
Applicants should send a CV, a cover letter with a description of research interests, and the names of three references by email:
