Position Description Summary:

The MetroHealth System (MHS) and Case Western Reserve University (CWRU) invite applications for a Faculty Scientist position at any rank (Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Full Professor levels) in the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PM&R). This is an exciting opportunity for an outstanding person to join and contribute to a strong interdisciplinary translational research program. Applicants from all areas of rehabilitation and related fields are encouraged to apply.

The CWRU Department of PM&R is internationally renowned for its translational, basic, and clinical research in the application of electrical stimulation for the treatment of CNS paralysis, chronic musculoskeletal pain, and autonomic dysfunction. It is presently ranked #2 in the nation in NIH funding among Departments of PM&R in US Medical Schools. It includes over 40 clinical and research faculty, a 24 resident PM&R training program, and fellowship training programs in SCI Medicine, Brain Injury Medicine and Pain Medicine. In addition, there are more than 300 therapy, nursing and support staff members delivering comprehensive neurological and musculoskeletal rehabilitation ambulatory services at the MHS main campus and across multiple community-based satellites. The Department is based at the MHS, which is a 450-bed mission-driven essential academic medical center that includes a certified Comprehensive Stroke Center, a Level I Trauma Center, and a federally designated Spinal Cord Injury (SCI) Model System Center. The Department is part of the MetroHealth Rehabilitation Institute (MHRI), which was named as one of 15 inaugural Rehabilitation Innovation Centers by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services. MHRI has over $92 million in research funding and includes a 67-bed free-standing CARF-accredited rehabilitation hospital organized into distinct units for brain injury, stroke, and SCI.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities:

The successful candidate will be expected to establish a strong program of high-quality extramurally-funded research directed toward neurologic conditions with a goal to translate technologic, rehabilitative and/or biologic innovations to the clinic and disability communities. PM&R faculty members actively contribute to an environment that values diversity and nurtures collaboration, creativity, and innovation. The candidate will participate as an active investigator in the MHRI and the MetroHealth Center for Rehabilitation Research. Ample opportunities exist for the candidate to benefit from interdisciplinary collaborations across the Cleveland area, where there is a major focus on restoring motor, sensory, and autonomic function for individuals with neurologic disorders with strong programs in neural engineering and psychosocial interventions. The new faculty member will have the opportunity to advance and extend existing relationships to multiple departments at MHS and at CWRU, as well as at the Department of Veterans Affairs Northeast Ohio Healthcare System, University Hospitals, Cleveland State University, and the Cleveland Clinic.

Minimum Qualifications:

Applicants must have clear evidence of potential for investigative independence (as evidenced in part by peer-reviewed publications and prior grant support), and the ability to teach effectively.

Advertised Salary:

Salary will be commensurate with academic rank.
