Carnegie Mellon University (CMU) seeks highly qualified applicants for a tenure-track position
within the Neuroscience Institute. Appointments will be considered at the rank of assistant
professor. Applicants may apply via Interfolio at http://apply.interfolio.com/151921.
We seek a candidate conducting systems neuroscience research using NHP models to study
higher-order cognition such as decision making, motor planning, attention, working memory, or
similar. The successful applicant’s laboratory will be located in a newly expanded and renovated
neurophysiology facility, to be completed by the end of 2024. This facility houses faculty from
both CMU and our neighbor, the University of Pittsburgh, offering the unique opportunity to be
part of a highly interactive, cross-institution community. We are particularly interested in
candidates who can capitalize on Carnegie Mellon's and Pitt’s robust collaborative environment
for experimental and computational neuroscience research, with core strengths in cognitive
and systems neuroscience, neurotechnology, machine learning, artificial intelligence, data
science, engineering, and biological sciences.
Information about the Neuroscience Institute can be found at https://www.cmu.edu/ni/, and
about the joint CMU-Pitt Center for the Neural Basis of Cognition at http://cnbc.cmu.edu.
Carnegie Mellon University is an Equal Opportunity Employer. CMU is committed to increasing
the diversity of its community on a range of intellectual and cultural dimensions. CMU
welcomes faculty applicants who will contribute to this diversity through their research,
teaching and service. Qualified candidates who can contribute through their work/life
experiences to the diversity and excellence of the academic community are encouraged to
apply. CMU seeks to meet the needs of dual-career couples and is a member of the Higher
Education Recruitment Consortium (HERC) that assists with dual-career searches. CMU offers
highly competitive salaries and start-up packages in an attractive and livable urban
environment.
To be considered for a position beginning Fall 2025, interested applicants should submit 1) a 1-
page cover letter describing fit to the Neuroscience Institute, Carnegie Mellon, and the
collaborative Pittsburgh neuroscience community, 2) a statement that describes their research
(2-4 pages), 3) a teaching statement (1-2 pages), 4) a CV, and 5) three letters of
recommendation. Applicants may also submit an optional 1-page personal and service
statement. Detailed instructions are available on Interfolio.
The submission website will be available for applications starting immediately and applicants
are welcome to submit at any time thereafter until October 31, 2024. Formal in-person
interviews will begin in the Fall of 2024.
