Hampden-Sydney College invites applications for a full time tenure-track Assistant Professor of Biology to begin in August of 2025. While applicants from all biological disciplines will be considered, we are especially interested in applicants with expertise in neuroscience/neurobiology. Responsibilities include teaching 3 courses each semester (with a 4th course every sixth semester) that will include lecture and laboratory courses for our introductory-level Principles of Biology, Human Anatomy & Physiology, and neuroscience minor, as well as upper-level courses appropriate to the applicant’s expertise. Competitive applicants should hold a Ph.D. in a relevant field of Biology and be excited to develop a research program involving undergraduates.
Hampden-Sydney College is a selective liberal arts institution enrolling approximately 1000 students. Founded in 1775, it is the tenth oldest institution of higher learning in the United States. The campus is less than 7 miles from downtown Farmville, which includes a historic walkable downtown with a local brewery, art and craft galleries, restaurants, and a rails-to-trail state park that extends over 15 miles in each direction from town. Five additional state parks are located within 30 miles and offer camping, fishing, hiking, boating, swimming, and horseback riding. Farmville is also home to Longwood University and the Moton Museum, which is listed on the US Civil Rights Trail. Farmville is located 65 miles west of Richmond, 50 miles east of Lynchburg, and 75 miles south of Charlottesville, providing abundant opportunities for cultural and artistic resources, field trips, and employment opportunities for partners.
Hampden-Sydney is one of three liberal arts colleges in the United States dedicated to the education of men, and our mission is to educate "good men and good citizens in an atmosphere of sound learning."
