We seek a highly motivated scientist to conduct research on an NIH-funded R01 project dissecting and modelling the behavior and neurophysiology of human hand dexterity before and after stroke. This project is a collaboration across four centers led by Drs. Jing Xu (University of Georgia), Timothy Verstynen (Carnegie Mellon University), Michael Borich (Emory University), and Jeremy Brown (Johns Hopkins University). We employ advanced force and motion-sensing devices to record human hand behaviors and apply neural tractography and brain stimulation techniques to delineate descending pathways, and computational modelling approaches to examine neural mechanisms supporting essential components of hand dexterity. The team has strong expertise in each of the key methodological areas and a long-standing collaboration. The post-doctoral researcher will work in a highly diverse, intellectually stimulating, interdisciplinary, and collaborative environment, in which each individual bringing in their diverse experience is highly valued.
An earned PhD in the field of biomedical engineering, movement science, or rehabilitation sciences is desired. Prior experience in neuroimaging, neural stimulation, and computational modelling is a plus.
