Job Details
The Department of Neurobiology at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine seeks to hire one-two tenure stream investigators at the rank of Assistant Professor to join a multidisciplinary team focused on understanding the underlying mechanisms involved in the etiology of Alzheimer’s disease (AD). We are interested in applications from candidates who are investigating the molecular, cellular, and, especially, neuroimmunological mechanisms involved in AD initiation and progression.
The successful candidate will join a thriving, collegial, and supportive research environment that is rich with core facilities, robust cross-disciplinary graduate training programs (including joint graduate programs with Carnegie Mellon University) and broad expertise in AD and related dementias. Pitt has a state-of-the-art preclinical nonhuman primate facility with genetically engineered AD marmosets as part of a large marmoset colony to support translational research. Other groups include the mouse MODEL-AD program, the TREAT-AD Centers for Discovery of New Medicines, the Pittsburgh Institute for Neurodegenerative Diseases, the Aging Institute, and a vibrant Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center (ADRC). Additional resources include the UPMC Clinical Genome Center, the Pittsburgh Supercomputing Center, the Center for Biological Imaging, and the School of Computing and Information.
Applicants must hold a Ph.D., M.D., or the equivalent in a relevant discipline and have a strong record of scholarly achievement. The successful applicant will receive a competitive start-up package, with modern lab and office space, and will be expected to participate in graduate training and active NIH training programs. The start date is negotiable. The positions will remain open until filled.
The University of Pittsburgh and the School of Medicine are consistently ranked among the top ten NIH-funded institutions. The University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC), which includes the AD clinical research program, is one of the largest national academic medical centers in the United States.
The city of Pittsburgh is regularly cited one of the most livable, culturally vibrant, and technologically innovative cities in the US (Pittsburgh). Housing is affordable, arts offerings are world- class, and the three major sports teams are widely recognized. To be considered for the position, please upload a cover letter, CV, 1-page statement of AD research interests, PDFs of 2-3 recent publications, and contact information for 3 references .
