The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) and the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania seek candidates for several Assistant Professor positions in the tenure track. Expertise is required in the area of neuroscience with a research focus on or related to mechanisms of neurodevelopmental disorders. Applicants must have an M.D and/or Ph.D or equivalent degree.
The faculty will join the Brain Institute for Development, Genetics, and Engineering (BRIDGE), a new Center at The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia located in the Morgan Center for Research and Innovation, a 17-floor, 350,000 square foot state-of-the-art building opening on the CHOP/Penn campus in 2025. The Center is focused on mechanisms of normal brain development, neurodevelopmental disorders, neurogenetics, and the preclinical development of therapeutics for childhood epilepsy, developmental delay and intellectual disability, autism spectrum disorder, neurogenerative disorders of childhood, mitochondrial and metabolic disease, and psychiatric disease and behavioral disorders.
Teaching responsibilities may include teaching and mentoring of graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, and other trainees (undergraduates, physician-scientist residents and fellows, etc.).
For candidates with an M.D., clinical responsibilities may include providing inpatient and outpatient care to pediatric patients at The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia.
Research or scholarship responsibilities include maintaining an active basic and/or translational research program.
Successful applicants will have evidence of prior scholarly activity and productivity and a strong publication record in one or more aspects of neuroscience, with examples including neurodevelopment, electrophysiology, imaging, anatomy, molecular biology, neuroengineering, and/or neurobiology of disease. A competitive startup package commensurate with experience will be provided. The selected candidate will be expected to secure extramural grant funding.
The primary faculty appointment will be based at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia in a department in the Perelman School of Medicine that is consistent with the scientific expertise of the successful candidate.
The research environment at The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia and The University of Pennsylvania benefits from an integrated and collaborative campus and provides abundant opportunities for cross-disciplinary collaboration with leading investigators. CHOP and Penn have developed world class facilities and programs in translational neuroscience, physiology, cell and gene therapy, single cell biology, machine learning and computer vision, gut-brain interactions, and other fields. The successful applicant will be able to leverage these resources in developing a collaborative but independent research program.
