Job Details

The Intramural Research Program (IRP), National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA), a research component of the National Institutes of Health (NIH), Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS), is seeking an outstanding Tenure-Track or Tenure-Eligible Investigator to lead the Neural Computation of Motivation and Decision-Making Section, which is part of the Behavioral Neuroscience Research Branch (BNRB) of the IRP. We are seeking a candidate who is committed to scientific excellence. The successful candidate must use nonhuman primate behavioral models and possess an M.D. and/or Ph.D. or equivalent degrees in pharmacology, neuroscience, or related fields. Criteria for selection include substantial experience in behavioral pharmacology and neuroscience, and a strong publication record on neuropharmacological mechanisms underlying substance use disorders. The successful candidate will be expected to collaborate with other research groups within NIDA (e.g., neuroimaging) and therefore should demonstrate a proven ability to establish and sustain collaborative work across multiple disciplines. The position can be filled as either a Tenure-Track or Tenure-Eligible Investigator.

The selected candidate will receive independent resources from NIDA for funding start-up costs and on-going program operations and will be responsible for managing these resources (budget, human resources, and space). NIDA will provide laboratory and office space adequate to establish an outstanding research program at the Biomedical Research Center, located on the Johns Hopkins Bayview Campus in Baltimore, MD. The broader NIH campus and the NIDA IRP in Baltimore provide a rich and highly interactive neuroscience environment. Salary will be commensurate with experience. A full civil service package of benefits may be available.

Appointees may be US citizens, Legal Permanent Residents or non-US citizens who are eligible for a valid work authorization. Applications from women, persons from underrepresented groups, and persons with disabilities are strongly encouraged. This position is subject to a background investigation. Interested candidates must submit a Curriculum Vitae (including bibliography), a two-page summary of research interests, and the names and contact information (work/email addresses, phone) of three references (via pdf or MS Word format only – paper applications will not be accepted) to: Deon Harvey, Ph.D., Management Analyst, NIDA IRP at NIDAIRPManagementAnalysts@nih.gov.

Please also provide a description of mentoring and outreach activities (not to exceed 1 page) in which you have been involved, especially those involving women and persons from racial/ethnic and other groups that are underrepresented in biomedical research.

Review of applications will begin on or about August 7, 2024, and will continue until the position is filled.

The DHHS, NIH, and NIDA are Equal Opportunity Employers. NIH is dedicated to building a diverse community through its training and employment programs.
