The Ethell Lab at the University of California Riverside School of Medicine has an opening for a Post-Doctoral Scientist with experience in Cellular and Molecular Neuroscience. This position is funded by NINDS for the next five years to study the mechanisms of inhibition in autism. The goal of the proposed research is to discover new mechanisms underlying the development of hyperactive neuronal networks in the brain through targeting ephrin signaling in neurons and astrocytes during postnatal developmental period. The ideal candidate will have a PhD in the life sciences or equivalent degree and will work on the mechanisms of inhibitory synapse formation and remodeling in normal and diseased brains. The post-doc position will involve working with mouse models, primary cell cultures and brain slices using cutting-edge molecular tools, whole cell electrophysiology, optogenetics, in vivo EEG recordings, immunochemistry, confocal microscopy and animal behaviors. Experience with animal handling, primary neuronal cultures, genetic manipulations and optical imaging are strongly preferred. The position will provide an opportunity to apply for UCR SOM Dean’s Postdoc to Faculty Program. This program is designed to provide support for emerging principal investigators among postdoctoral fellows presently employed in the UCR School of Medicine. Prospective post-doc position is available to start between May 1 through October 1, 2024. Please send an electronic copy of your curriculum vitae to Iryna Ethell by email: iryna.ethell@ucr.edu
