Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor of Empire Innovation

SUNY Upstate Medical University (Syracuse, NY) invites applications from scientists with a record of high quality, original research related to Alzheimer’s disease, dementias, or other degenerative brain disorders. This tenure-eligible appointment will include a generous startup package from the SUNY Empire Innovation Program.

  • Interests include the study of AD, ADRD, other dementias, neuronal circuit function or aging, memory or cognitive decline, and neural degeneration, broadly defined.
  • Preference for research with translational and clinical relevance, but all research will be considered.
  • Applicants with MD, MD-PhD, or PhD, at all career levels, including postdocs with early career development awards are welcome to apply - rank to be based on qualifications.
  • For mid-career/senior investigators with funding (R01/R01- equivalent), this position offers the opportunity to take on a leadership role within our growing research community focused on aging and nervous system degeneration.
  • For a young investigator at postdoctoral or scientist level with career development funding (K99, R21, etc.), Upstate offers a protected environment for launching one’s career. Our young faculty are given every opportunity to succeed through outstanding mentoring and material resources.
  • This recruitment is a joint effort by the departments of Geriatrics, Neurology, Neuroscience, Ophthalmology, and Psychiatry - departmental affiliations to be based on best fit for the candidate.

The new faculty will join a thriving Neuroscience community of more than 40 investigators (https://www.upstate.edu/neuroscience-program/faculty.php) with broad research expertise in cellular, molecular, genetics, electrophysiology and behavioral approaches and a focus on human disease. Areas of strength include age-related neurodegenerative diseases including Alzheimer’s and other dementias, neuropsychiatric disorders, neural circuit plasticity, nervous system development, brain and retina degeneration, glaucoma, and epigenomics. Our research is supported by state- of-the-art imaging, genomics, proteomics, and computational facilities, and growing Biobank capabilities. Our associated hospitals offer extensive services for the management of neurodegenerative disorders through the clinical departments of Geriatrics, Neurology, and the Neurodegenerative Disorders Center (https://www.upstate.edu/neurodegenerative/).
