Job Details
The Neuroscience Department at Oberlin College invites applications for a full-time non-continuing faculty position in the College of Arts and Sciences. This position will be in an open area of Neuroscience. Appointment will be for a term of 1 year, beginning Fall 2024, and will carry the rank of Visiting Assistant Professor of Neuroscience.
The incumbent will teach a total of five courses across two semesters. This includes upper-level lecture and laboratory courses, a capstone seminar, introductory neuroscience, and non-majors courses. Most courses can be specialized to center on the incumbent’s area of expertise as long as the topic area complements current offerings in the department. The Department and the College support and encourage interdisciplinary work; therefore, an ideal candidate’s work could attract students from outside the discipline, including those in affiliated departments as well as those in the arts and humanities.
Among the qualifications required for appointment is a Ph.D. degree in Neuroscience or a related area (in hand or expected by first semester of academic year 2024). Candidates must demonstrate interest and potential excellence in undergraduate teaching. Successful teaching experience at the college level is desirable. Inclusion and diversity are hallmarks of excellence at Oberlin. The incumbent will bring understanding of or experience working with underrepresented and diverse academic populations. The Neuroscience Department is especially interested in candidates who can contribute to the diversity and excellence of the academic community through their teaching. Oberlin recruits, employs, trains, compensates, and promotes regardless of race, religion, color, national origin, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, disability, age, veteran’s status, and/or other protected status as required by applicable law.
Review of applications will begin on February 1, 2024, and will continue until the position is filled. Completed applications received by the February 1st deadline will be guaranteed full consideration.
