DESCRIPTION OF POSITION: The Department of Integrative Physiology and Neuroscience (IPN) at Washington State University (WSU) is seeking to fill a 12-month permanent tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor, depending on qualifications. Preference will be given to neuroscientists whose research programs use state-of-the-art approaches at the molecular, circuit, and/or behavioral levels that will synergize with and complement existing departmental research strengths (https://vetmed.wsu.edu/education/graduate-degrees/faculty-directory/?organization=integrative-physiology-and-neuroscience).  It is expected that successful candidates will develop and maintain an innovative and extramurally funded research program while contributing to the teaching mission of the department.

RESPONSIBILITIES: Typical appointments are 65% research, 25% formal teaching in undergraduate, graduate, and professional courses and mentoring, and 10% service. The successful candidates will provide evidence of, or strong potential for, establishing a productive, extramurally funded research program while providing innovative instruction in undergraduate, graduate and/or DVM curricula.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants must have an earned PhD or equivalent in Neuroscience or related biological/biomedical science field. Demonstrated potential to secure extramural funding, publish in high-impact peer-reviewed journals, and provide high-level instruction in the classroom and laboratory is required. Additionally, for the Associate level, candidates must have a currently funded extramural research program and a record of successful mentorship (graduate students / postdocs). Further, IPN seeks candidates whose research, teaching, or service has prepared them to contribute to our commitment to diversity and inclusion in higher education.

DEPARTMENT: The Department of Integrative Physiology and Neuroscience (IPN) at WSU is part of a large, vibrant Neuroscience community that spans the Pullman, Spokane, and Vancouver campuses. In addition, IPN is home to strong graduate and undergraduate programs in Neuroscience. Along with the core facilities, all faculty have access to innovative programs including the Program of Excellence in Addictions Research (PEAR), The Alcohol and Drug Abuse Research Program (ADARP) and the Translational Addiction Research Center (TARC), the Center for Cannabis Policy, Research, and Outreach (CCPRO) and the Sleep and Performance Research Center (SPRC).

COLLEGE: Many collaborative opportunities exist within the Department and across the College of Veterinary Medicine which has strong programs in infectious disease, reproductive biology, cell signaling and genomics, global health, as well as animal and public health (https://www.vetmed.wsu.edu/departments).

AREA: Washington State University’s Pullman campus in Eastern Washington sits in the rich agricultural area known as the Palouse. Pullman is known for excellent schools and as a safe place to live and raise a family. Pullman is only eight miles from the University of Idaho at Moscow and an hour south of Spokane. Recreational opportunities abound with skiing, fishing, hunting, whitewater rafting, camping, hiking, and rock climbing all nearby. Pullman is near numerous rivers, lakes, and wilderness areas; including the Snake, Salmon, and Clearwater rivers, Coeur d’Alene, Pend Oreille, and Priest lakes, and the Selway-Bitterroot Wilderness to name a few.

Salary range is $126,000-185,000 depending on qualifications and level of experience. 

In accordance with RCW 49.58.110, the above salary reflects the full salary range for this position. Individual placement within the range is based on the candidate’s current experience, education, skills, and abilities related to the position.
