The Department of Psychology at Binghamton University (SUNY) is in an active growth phase intended to expand the scope and impact of the research, teaching, service, outreach, and clinical activities we provide. Toward that end, we are seeking exceptional candidates as part of a cluster hire to recruit three established faculty whose research examines typical or atypical social, cognitive, and emotional development in the etiology and persistence of mental health problems across the lifespan. Preferred areas of research are at the intersection of environmental stress and biological/cognitive/emotional development and maturation. Adversity is broadly construed as a range of determinants relevant to typical versus atypical developmental trajectories impacting cognitive and mental health outcomes. Individuals whose research examines environmental stressors, including structural inequities, on biological, cognitive/neural, and emotional development within a lifespan approach (focusing on early, middle, and/or late life) are especially encouraged to apply. Our goal is to further develop multidisciplinary teams of scientists with complementary skill sets who can work collaboratively with each other and capitalize on existing faculty strengths to generate independent extramural funding and publish high-impact research with translational implications. 


Successful candidates are expected to be appointed at a tenured faculty rank and could affiliate with any of our three areas (Behavioral Neuroscience, Clinical Science, and Cognitive Psychology). We are interested in candidates with an established record of research leadership in the areas listed above. Specific scientific approaches are open but will be expected to reflect the current state-of-the-science, including contemporary neuroscience approaches applied in either human participants and/or laboratory animals. Scientists with a demonstrated history of multidisciplinary collaboration and success will be reviewed most favorably.

Candidates must hold a doctoral degree in psychology, neuroscience, or a related discipline. They must have an active program of research as demonstrated by a history of peer-reviewed publications and extramural funding. Finally, they must have professional qualifications commensurate with appointment at the (tenured) Associate or Full Professor rank. Experience in teaching undergraduate or graduate courses is preferred.
