The Mostany Laboratory in the Department of Pharmacology and the Brain Institute of Tulane University is recruiting a highly motivated and creative scientist to work on the project “Impact of hypertension and high-fat diet on estradiol’s role in cortical synaptic plasticity” within the NIH Project Program Grant (P01) “Estrogens, Cardiometabolic Health, and Female Cognitive Aging”. Our project seeks to understand the mechanisms by which estrogen’s effects on cortical synaptic plasticity diverge in healthy and unhealthy middle-aged females. Our approach takes advantage of mouse models of experimental menopause in combination with electrophysiological recordings of intrinsic and synaptic properties of cortical neurons, awake imaging of neurovascular coupling and dynamics of dendritic spines using two-photon excitation microscopy, bioenergetic studies of brain blood vessel and neuron mitochondria, and cardiometabolic assessments. Demonstrated expertise in patch clamp electrophysiology is required for consideration for the position. The candidate will join a group of over 30 team members that currently participate in the project as well as a rich, growing, and diverse neuroscience community fostered by the Brain Institute.

Qualifications
Candidates should have a recent PhD with a focus in neuroscience and have a track-record of first-author publications. Demonstrated patch clamp electrophysiology experience and experience working with rodent models is required. Salary will be commensurate with experience and based on NIH scale.
