Postdoctoral fellow at the intersection of ion channel biophysics and sensory neuroscience

A position is available for a full-time Postdoctoral Fellow in the laboratory of Dr. Amy Lee, PhD in the Dept. of Neuroscience at The University of Texas at Austin. We are broadly interested in Ca²⁺ signaling mechanisms underlying the development, function, and repair of the nervous system. Our current areas of research include studies of voltage-gated Ca²⁺ channels in the retina with a focus on the development and function of photoreceptor synapses, as well as how dysregulation of Ca²⁺ channels cause inherited retinal disorders. We are also studying the roles of calmodulin-like Ca²⁺sensors in somatosensory functions and axonal outgrowth in dorsal root ganglion neurons. A new direction of the lab is to utilize fluorescence techniques to study the biophysical properties of Ca²⁺ channels at the single molecule level. We utilize techniques including patch clamp electrophysiology, confocal and two-photon imaging, molecular biology and biochemistry, and behavioral assays. Responsibilities include participating in research studies, mentoring of other lab personnel, and engaging in career development activities.

Required Qualifications

• PhD in neuroscience or related field received within the last three years
• Experience in electrophysiology, optical imaging, molecular biology, and/or biochemistry 

Preferred Qualifications

• Knowledge of retinal neurobiology and associated techniques
• First-author on at least one peer-reviewed publication 

Postdoctoral Fellow positions are for one year, and are renewable based upon availability of funding, work performance, and progress toward research goals.
