The Department of Neuroscience at Baylor College of Medicine (BCM) seeks applications from researchers who are expert in the use of computational, theoretical, and/or machine learning approaches to understanding brain function, to establish a world-class research program within our department. Top candidates will have strong interest and a track record of performing collaborative research with animal or human experimental neuroscientists to extract insights into brain function, in health and disease, by engaging with large-scale behavioral and neurophysiological datasets. Example research areas with high potential synergy with existing BCM neuroscientists, include: learning; sensory systems; machine learning analysis of behavior; neural population dynamics, and neuromodulation therapy. Researchers with a purely ‘dry lab’ (computational/ theoretical/ machine learning) program are particularly encouraged to apply; those incorporating an experimental research program will also be considered.

We seek applications at the Assistant Professor level but accomplished mid-career or senior scientists at the level of Associate or Full Professor with strong records of research productivity, grant support, and a demonstrated collaborative spirit are also encouraged to apply. While the primary focus will be on research, it is expected that faculty will participate in graduate student teaching and service on committees essential to the function of the Department and College.

Applicants should submit a cover letter with a research statement, CV, and the names of at least three referees as a single PDF file to the application portal. Applications received before October 31st, 2023 will receive full consideration by the committee. After this date, applications will be evaluated on a continuing basis until the available positions are filled.

The Department of Neuroscience at BCM is one of the most successful and highly funded Neuroscience departments in the country. BCM is recognized as one of the nation’s premier academic health science centers and is known for excellence in education, research, and healthcare and community service. We are located within a dynamic, collaborative research environment the Texas Medical Center, with one of the highest densities of clinical, translational, and basic neuroscience research in the world. The Neuroscience Department, including primary and affiliated faculty, is a vibrant community with strong ties to Rice University, the Duncan Neurological Research Institute (NRI), the University of Texas Health Sciences, and the University of Houston. We have longstanding partnerships with the NeuroEngineering and Data Science faculty at Rice University, and joint appointments with relevant departments at Rice University and the University of Houston are possible.
