Job Details
Lagerlöf Lab at Umeå University in Sweden is seeking a postdoctoral fellow to study how the brain regulates food intake. It is a four year position and it starts in November 2023 or by agreement.
At Umeå University you will experience an attractive and creative academic and research environment that is characterised by excellence, innovation, openness and diversity. We rank among the top universities in the world and are committed to providing our employees with unique opportunities for professional and personal development. More than 2000 researchers and 34 700 students have chosen Umeå University already. You are welcome too!
Project description
We are seeking a postdoctoral fellow excited to study how the brain regulates feeding behavior. Our group approaches feeding behavior on a molecular, neuronal circuit and behavioral level. We are particularly interested in how the brain integrates emotions, memory and metabolic signaling to encode mental states such as hunger and satiety. As postdoctoral fellow in our group you will have the opportunity to lead projects uncovering novel mechanisms by which the brain influences what we eat and how such mechanisms can be used to treat unhealthy eating habits and eating disorders like anorexia nervosa. Different projects include molecular mechanisms, imaging, mapping and manipulating neuronal circuits in rodents. If interested, it will be possible to develop your own research plan. We believe in fostering an environment where everyone enjoys the support, freedom and ability to answer the big questions in neuroscience. We want to support your career and help you take the next step towards your goals.
Qualifications
We seek people excited about the brain and how it makes us feel, think and behave. Experience of animal behavior, biochemistry, molecular biology, stereotactic injections, neurocircuit mapping and in vivo imaging is meritorious. Eligible are those that hold a Ph.D. in neuroscience, biochemistry or a related field. Ph.D. students within 3 months of degree certification are encouraged to apply; their degree need to be finalized before acceptance can be given.
Terms of employment
It is a four year position with an evaluation after two years. Full social benefits are included and the salary matches the normal university level.
