The Huntington Society of Canada - Research Chair

Position Profile: The Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry at Western University is seeking to bring in a successful candidate who will be a leader in neurodegenerative research to focus on finding new ways to prevent, identify and treat Huntington’s disease. The Chair will be a national and/or international leader in neurodegenerative research with a particular focus on Huntington’s disease. The successful candidate will be appointed to a full-time probationary (tenure-track) position at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor or at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor with tenure. The rank and tenure status will be commensurate with the applicant’s qualifications and experience. The successful candidate will be appointed in the Basic Science Department that most appropriately fits their expertise and the candidate will strongly be encouraged to establish a cross-appointment to a Clinical Department.

Academic Expectations: The successful applicant will have a research track-record in using models designed to discern the genetic, molecular, imaging and/or cellular mechanisms that underpin neurodegenerative diseases with a focus on Huntington’s disease. The candidate may also have direct experience or collaborative experience working with Huntington’s disease patients or patient samples. The successful candidate will have protected time for research.

Qualifications: For a Probationary appointment the successful candidate will have completed a Ph.D. or M.D./Ph.D. degree and postdoctoral training in neurodegenerative diseases with preference given to candidates with a track-record of research into Huntington’s disease. The candidate will demonstrate excellence or clear promise of excellence in research, including evidence of independent research leading to peer-reviewed publications and external funding. The candidate must have the potential for excellence in teaching and training of students at the undergraduate and/or graduate levels.

For a Tenured appointment, the successful candidate will have completed a Ph.D. or M.D./Ph.D. degree with a highly accomplished track-record of excellence in research into Huntington’s disease. The candidate will provide evidence of research impact through publications and the establishment of a thriving externally-funded research program. The candidate will also have demonstrated excellence in teaching and training of students at the undergraduate and/or graduate levels.

Compensation Details: The Chair appointment is for a five-year period, with the possibility of renewal for one additional term pending review recommendation. Compensation for this position will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
