The Faculty of Natural Sciences seeks to fill the following vacancy at the Institute of Biology: 

Junior Research Group Leader (m/f/d) in the field of Cellular and synaptic mechanisms of engram formation 

Salary scale: 14 TV-L 
Date commencing: Jan. 1st 2024 
Fixed term (until): Dec. 31st 2028 
Contract status: 100 %

The successful candidate (m/f/d) will establish and lead an independent junior research group at the Institute of Biology, Faculty of Natural Sciences of the Otto-von-Guericke University, Magdeburg.

Job description: 
Relevant experience in the analysis of cellular and synaptic mechanisms of memory formation and a suitable spectrum of methods, which allow the investigation of small neuronal networks and their synaptic connectivity with high resolution, are expected. A combination of electrophysiological and optogenetic methods with so-called engram technologies will be useful. The analysis of molecular mechanisms of synaptic processes and molecular programmes within a defined neurocognitive circuit and their relation to behavior is desirable. It is expected that the new research group will work closely with the CRC1436 also during the second funding phase of the CRC1436. For more information, please visit www.sfb1436.de. Requirements profile: 
Qualification requirements include a Ph.D. or M.D./Ph.D. degree, appropriate postdoctoral training (no more than 6 years after Ph.D. – parental leave taken into account), documented expertise in the announced topics and a clearly formulated and convincing plan for an independent and competitive research.
