Job Details
The Collins Laboratory in the Department of Pharmacology at The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio is seeking a highly motivated and creative Postdoctoral Fellow to conduct innovative NIDA- and VA-funded research on the behavioral pharmacology of substance use disorders (SUD). Current research in our laboratory is focused on: 1) developing models of polysubstance abuse to investigate interactions between the abuse-related and toxic effects of stimulants and opioids (e.g., methamphetamine and fentanyl); 2) validation of novel targets and evaluation of candidate medications for the treatment of (poly)substance use disorders; and 3) understanding behavioral and neuropharmacological factors that underlie the development of SUD-like phenotypes. Through this fellowship, the selected candidate will gain expertise in sophisticated behavioral pharmacology techniques including intravenous self-administration in rats and mice, physiologic telemetry, and the application of quantitative analyses to the study of drugs, drug-drug interactions, and behavior. In addition to working on funded projects, the selected candidate will be encouraged to develop an independent line of research. Additional structured opportunities for scientific and career development are provided by a NIDA-funded T32 training grant.
Eligibility: Candidates should be a US Citizen, non-citizen national, or permanent resident of the US with a recent doctoral degree in Pharmacology, Neuroscience, Experimental Psychology, or a related discipline, and a strong interest in conducting drug abuse research. Prior experience with rodent or non-human primate behavior is preferred, but not essential.
To apply: Send a CV, a brief statement of research/training goals, and the names and contact information of three references to Gregory T. Collins, Ph.D. (collinsg@uthscsa.edu). Application review will begin immediately and continue until the position is filled.
All postdoctoral appointments are designated as security sensitive positions. University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio is an Equal Employment Opportunity/Affirmative Action employer including protected veterans and persons with disabilities.
