The Department of Neuroscience at the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professor position in the research area of developmental neurobiology and its disorders. This search is part of a multi-year strategic plan to expand neurodevelopment research at MUSC. Major topics of interest include, but are not limited to, mechanisms of neural development, neuroimmune biology, and circuit development and plasticity. We are interested in applicants that use cutting-edge molecular and genetic technologies, methods for modeling human neurobiology, and/or in vivo recording techniques, to study key questions in the field of neurodevelopment. Applicants should have a PhD and/or MD with appropriate research expertise and are expected to possess an outstanding record of high-quality publications, a strong potential to secure extramural research funding, and a clear commitment to promoting workplace diversity in all its forms.
Successful candidates will benefit from a competitive start-up package in a basic science department that consistently ranks in the top 15 in NIH awards and has a strong commitment to faculty mentoring and collegiality. The research-oriented department comprises a successful PhD graduate program, two NIH-funded T32 training grants for pre- and postdoctoral scholars, two NIH Center grants, and a recently established NIH Center of Biomedical Research Excellence (COBRE) in Neurodevelopment and its Disorders.
MUSC is located in the coastal city of Charleston, SC – a city known for its rich history, arts and culture, higher education, architecture, beautiful beaches, top-rated restaurants, and wonderful people. Charleston receives perennial honors as a most desirable place to visit and live.
Interested applicants should submit a CV, a 3-page statement of research interests, a 1-page diversity statement, and contact information for three professional references to Kristen Mulholland (mulhollk@musc.edu). Please reference “neurodevelopment search” in the subject line. Applications submitted before November 15, 2023 will receive full consideration.
The Medical University of South Carolina is an Equal Opportunity Employer and is committed to workplace diversity. Applications from individuals with disabilities, females, minorities and veterans are particularly welcome.
