Postdoctoral Fellow

Two post-doctoral fellow positions are available in the Department of Neurology, Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center/Harvard Medical School, VanderHorst lab, Boston, USA.

The successful candidates will take on major roles in established collaborative research lines which aim to understand brainstem mechanisms that contribute to various types of sleep disordered breathing and gait disorders.  One research line involves the use in vivo pharmacogenetic, optogenetic, calcium imaging, electrophysiological, behavioral and state of the art circuit mapping methods to study brainstem circuitries in mouse models. A parallel research line involves clinical-pathological correlations between physiological measures of breathing, sleep and arousal or gait and neuropathologies in relevant circuit nodes in post-mortem human brainstem. The candidates will work closely with a team of RAs who assist with routine tissue processing and analyses.

The ideal candidates will be highly motivated, have a record of academic achievement, and work well with others. Applicants who have experience in respiratory physiology and/or motor systems neuroscience using one or more of the above techniques in mouse models, or have a background in spatial transcriptomics using CNS specimens are especially encouraged to apply.

Requirements:

-PhD or MD PhD

-Experience in systems neuroscience, including respiratory, motor, or sleep or experience in neurobiology of aging and neuropathology

-Excellent analytical and organizational skills

-Excellent scientific track record

-Demonstrated ability to work in a team

-Excellent skills in written and spoken English
