Assistant/Associate/Full Professor

Overview:

The department of Biomedical Sciences at the Western Michigan University Homer Stryker M.D. School of Medicine (WMed) invites applications for a full-time faculty position (open rank, Assistant, Associate or Full Professor). The successful candidate will share responsibilities for medical student education in behavioral neuroscience and behavioral science and join an interdisciplinary team of medical educators who are committed to excellence and innovation in teaching and scholarship and also are enthusiastic to mentor junior faculty. WMed is committed to increasing the diversity of its faculty and encourages candidates from underrepresented groups in higher education to apply. Both experienced faculty members and current postdoctoral fellows interested in an education-focused faculty position are encouraged to apply. The position could start as soon as summer 2023. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis beginning May 1 and until the position is filled.

Responsibilities:

  • Teaching: Responsibilities for this position include teaching behavioral science and behavioral neuroscience content throughout the preclinical years (M1 and M2), as well as serving as the director of a 4-6 week course within an integrated, organ-based foundational biomedical science curriculum for medical students. Additional teaching opportunities exist within a Master of Biomedical Sciences graduate program, core clinical clerkships, and the graduate medical education curriculum. The successful candidate will have a clear commitment to teaching.
  • Scholarship: Successful candidates will be expected to engage in scholarly activities that result in publications and professional presentations. WMed recognizes innovative teaching and scholarship as a basis for promotion. Areas of scholarship in the department medical education, basic science, and community-based research. Opportunities may be available for MD applicants to engage in clinical research appropriate to training and licensure.
  • Service: Participation in department and institutional service is expected.

Qualifications:

Qualified applicants must have a PhD and/or MD degree and experience in biopsychology and/or behavioral neuroscience teaching/research. Experience teaching in a medical school environment is desirable but not required.
