A full-time salaried postdoctoral research fellow position is available in the laboratory of Andres Grosmark at the University of Connecticut School of Medicine, Department of Neuroscience.

The Grosmark lab studies the neurobiological mechanisms of long-term memory consolidation and how these mechanisms are affected in neurological conditions such as age-related mild cognitive impairments and Alzheimer's disease. Our overall goals are to 1) elucidate the computational principles by which behavioral states, such as waking and sleep, interact to support memory consolidation, and 2) use the insights gained into the neural mechanisms and computational principles of memory formation and consolidation in order to better explain, predict, and ameliorate memory impairments observed in rodent models of neurological diseases.

This research will be carried out by integrating a variety of well-established and cutting-edge methods including: two-photon calcium imaging, silicon-probe base electrophysiology, physiologically triggered closed-loop optogenetic manipulations in head-fixed and freely moving spatial learning paradigms together with long-term behavioral monitoring across sleep-wake cycles. The collected data will be analyzed using cutting-edge computational algorithms for assessing neural dynamics and representational content.

Applicants should have a doctorate degree in neuroscience or a related field (PhD, MD or will receive degree soon). We will consider creative individuals with a broad range of backgrounds but applicants with experience in imaging, in vivo electrophysiology, the computational analysis of large datasets and/or mouse behavior will be preferred. The candidate must be capable of working both independently and collaboratively, and collecting, analyzing and preparing research data for publication. The candidate will be encouraged to use these studies and resources to develop their own research areas. Excellent English communication skills are required.

Position is available immediately and applications will be considered on an ongoing basis until filled.

Interested applicants should email to grosmark@uchc.edu a single file that includes a cover letter (describing research experience, career goals, and interest in the position), CV, and the contact information for at least 3 individuals willing to provide a letter of recommendation if asked.  Please indicate that this is postdoc applicant information in the subject line and mention this advertisement.
