A position for a postdoctoral research fellow is available in the laboratory of Sebnem N. Tuncdemir at the University of Connecticut School of Medicine, Department of Neuroscience.

https://www.memoryandcognitionlab.org/

https://facultydirectory.uchc.edu/profile?profileId=Tuncdemir-Sebnem

The Tuncdemir lab studies the neurobiological mechanisms of memory and cognitive processes implicated in psychiatric disorders by using novel technologies to both monitor and control genetically identified neural networks in real time. Our current research aims to dissect the heterogeneous components of memory circuits. Our overall goal is to conduct translational research using trans-species behavioral models of cognition to establish causal relationships between diverse neural subtypes and cognitive consequences of memory circuit dysfunction throughout the lifespan.

The immediate focus of research is a National Institutes of Health (NIH)-funded study examining the circuit mechanisms by which multisensory information arriving from the external world generates functional diversity in neural representations and their behavioral consequences. The study will use an integrative approach that merges in vivo imaging, mouse transgenic strategies, circuit analysis using viral vectors, behavioral assays as well as computational analysis of somatic and projection neural activity.

Additionally, the laboratory also addresses clinically relevant questions of how do developmentally differentiated functional groups of neurons respond to stress and antidepressant treatment and how can their activity be harnessed to develop novel circuit-based treatments of stress-induced psychopathologies, such as PTSD and depression.

Applicants should have a doctorate degree in neuroscience or related field (PhD, MD or will receive degree soon). We will consider creative individuals with a broad range of backgrounds but applicants with experience in imaging and mouse behavior will be preferred. The candidate must be capable of working both independently and collaboratively, and collecting, analyzing and preparing research data for publication. The candidate will be encouraged to use these studies and resources to develop their own research areas. Excellent English communication skills are required.

Position is available immediately and applications will be considered on an ongoing basis until filled.

Interested applicants should email to tuncdemir@uchc.edu a single file that includes a cover letter (describing research experience, career goals, and interest in the position), CV, and the contact information for at least 3 individuals willing to provide a letter of recommendation if asked.  Please indicate that this is postdoc applicant information in the subject line and mention this advertisement.

UConn Health is an affirmative action employer in addition to an EEO and M/F/V/PwD employer.
