Founded in 1946, the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation (OMRF) is among the nation's oldest, most respected independent, nonprofit biomedical research institutes. OMRF is dedicated to understanding and developing more effective treatments for human diseases, focusing on critical research areas such as Alzheimer's disease, cancer, lupus, Multiple Sclerosis, and cardiovascular disease. OMRF follows an innovative cross-disciplinary approach to medical research and ranks among the nation's leaders in patents per scientist.
Located in Oklahoma City, a city that offers a dynamic and flourishing downtown area, with low cost of living, short commute times and a diversified economy, OMRF has been voted one of the Top Workplaces since the inception of the award. Responsibilities
We are looking for a highly motivated postdoctoral research fellow to join the multidisciplinary Stout Laboratory within the Aging & Metabolism (A&M) Research Program at OMRF. The fellow will investigate how sex hormones and their receptors modulate hypothalamic neurocircuitry and the sex-specific regulation of systemic metabolism during the aging process. The successful candidate will employ a wide range of techniques including stereotaxic injection of AAVs into the brain, chemogenetic approaches (DREADD), brain imaging, single-cell transcriptomics, in vivo metabolic assessments, and a variety of cellular & molecular biology techniques. The candidate will present their data regularly in laboratory meetings, local seminars and symposiums, and will have opportunities to present their work at national conferences. A requirement of the position is that the candidate must demonstrate ethical behavior at all times, a high level of scientific rigor, and must be detail oriented and able to work independently and as part of a team.
The Stout Laboratory and A&M Research Program welcome applicants from diverse backgrounds that thrive in a highly collaborative and supportive environment. We are strongly committed to providing individualized mentoring and assistance with career advancement through the implementation of a postdoctoral mentoring committee. The A&M Research Program, which currently consists of 13 highly collaborative investigators, provides an exceptional training environment in aging biology (Geroscience). The A&M Research Program also has a strong collaborative history with faculty from the Oklahoma Center for Geroscience and Health Brain Aging at OUHSC which has resulted in a Geroscience Training Grant (T32 AG052363) that supports graduate students and postdoctoral fellows at OMRF and OUHSC. The collaborative program also houses the Oklahoma Nathan Shock Center of Excellence in Basic Biology of Aging (P30 AG050911), which provides pilot funding for junior investigators. OMRF also offers an annual grant writing course (F-troop) for graduate students and postdoctoral fellows that plan to prepare grant applications (F- or K-awards) for the NIH. The OMRF Postdoctoral Association offers additional training opportunities related to grant writing, presentation skills, and career development. The vibrant and highly collaborative environment within OMRF has resulted in the foundation being named the top large employer in the state of Oklahoma three times in the last five years.
